Privacy Policy

Tourin narrates the places around you, which means we handle your location and a few other pieces of personal information to make that work. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how you stay in control of it.

What we collect

• Your location. Collected only while the app is open and you are actively using it to create a tour. Tourin does not track your location when you are not using the app.
• Account details. The email address you sign up with, and an account identifier that keeps your tours and preferences with your account.
• Tour and location history. The places you have asked Tourin about and the narrations it created, kept with your account so your history is there when you come back.
• Preferences. The topics and narration style you choose, so tours match what you are actually curious about.
• Feedback. Ratings and comments you leave on a narration, kept with your account so we can improve the stories we tell.

Why we collect it

All of it exists for one purpose: telling you a story about where you are, on a topic you picked and in a voice you chose. Your location tells us what is nearby. Your preferences tell us what to talk about. Your history lets you revisit places you have been. Your feedback helps us make the next narration better.

How your narration is created

Creating a tour means writing the narration and then turning it into audio. Producing it involves service providers who work on our behalf, under contract and on our instructions. We share only what is needed to produce your tour, and what we share is not used to build a profile of you.

The place information behind a narration, such as historical facts, points of interest, and natural features, is drawn from public reference works, mapping data, and public records.

Storage and retention

Your account details, preferences, tour history, and location history are stored securely for as long as your account exists. We keep them so the app can show you your past tours and pick up where you left off. Your information is encrypted while it travels between your device and Tourin. When you delete your account, this information is deleted with it.

Your controls

• Location permission. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings. Without it, Tourin cannot create a tour, because there is nothing nearby to narrate.
• Account deletion. You can delete your account and everything stored with it at any time, either from within the app or by requesting deletion here. Deleting your account removes your details, preferences, tour history, and location history from our systems.

Website analytics

Our website (gettourin.com) uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site, such as which pages are viewed and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to do this. We use these reports in aggregate; they are not tied to your Tourin account. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your personal information, to anyone, ever.
• We don't run advertising in the app.
• We don't share your information with data brokers.
• We don't track your location when you are not using the app.

Children's privacy

Tourin is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Tourin grows and changes, for example when the app moves out of beta. We'll update the effective date above when we do. Material changes affecting how your information is used will be communicated in the app.
